Our Road Trip Continues – The Eversource Hartford Marathon AND A Coupon!

illumiNITE continues its Northeast Expo Extravaganza with a visit to the home of Mark Twain and the “Insurance Capital of the World”….Hartford, CT and the Eversource Hartford Marathon.

The weekend is jam-packed with activities for all ages, runners and spectators alike. Flipping through the weekend schedule, one event caught our eye – “Girls Night, Powerful Stories from Fearless Women.” As Amy Poehler says, “Yes, Please!”

Running legend and author Amby Burfoot will moderate a group discussion by pioneers in the women’s running movement. The following information about the participants comes from the Hartford Marathon website:

  • Julia Chase Band: The first woman to the run the Manchester Road Race in 1961.
  • Bobbi Gibb: The first woman to run the Boston Marathon in 1966, and the first woman finisher in 1966, 1970, and 1971.
  • Sara Mae Berman: The first woman at Boston in 1969, 1970, and 1971.
  • Patti Catalano Dillon: The first American women to break 2:30 in the marathon in 1980.

We bet the discussion is fun, insightful, and maybe a little humbling for those of us who run on these women’s coattails/running singlet. The event is TONIGHT 10/6/16 at the New Pavilion at the Bushnell Park Carousel. The event is also free, but you need tickets. Click here for more information.

While you’re in the area, pop by and visit us at the Total Fitness Expo at the XL Center at 1 Civic Center Plaza.
