illumiNITE heads to the “Insurance Capital of the World” this weekend for the Hartford Marathon. (Fun fact: Hartford was home to the country’s first YWCA, which was build in 1867.) We’ll have cold weather gear galore to help you prepare for the hard winter ahead. Brrrr….I’m cold just thinking about it.
But in the meantime…
Visit us at the Total Fitness Expo at the XL Center (1 Civic Center, Hartford) on Thursday, October 12th from 11 – 7 or Friday, October 13th from 11-7. We have a lot of new gear and fun styles for you try (all reflective, of course), so stop by and say hello.
Run Hartford has dedicated this year’s event to helping the people of Puerto Rico who (as you know) were devastated by Hurricane Maria. Calling it “PR for PR,” organizers are working with Americares to raise money for medical care and supplies for island residents.
Americares is a Connecticut based non-profit that provides emergency health services to communities around the world hit by natural disasters. According to their website, the organization focuses on healthcare because without a healthy population recovery isn’t possible.
Marathon organizers are asking event participants to make donations online or during registration and packet pick up. According to the marathon website, for every $10 donated, Americares provides $200 in emergency health services.
Do you want to help, but can’t make it to Hartford this weekend?
Run Hartford has set up a virtual race for anyone who wants to contribute/participate from home. Simply make a donation online and then walk or run on your own on the 14th.
Thank you Run Hartford for your efforts on behalf of Puerto Rico. If you donate, stop by our booth and let us know. We’ll give you a gift to show our appreciation.
Good luck to everyone participating in the Marathon!
